Au revoir FRANCE

 Well our last two weeks of our house sit was spent reading, Netflix binge and resting- we got Covid! Our first ever dose. We believe we got it from a function at the community hall - most probably the Concert night. We have learnt that the local community are anti government, anti vaccination and ignore all France Covid guidelines! Oh well if we were to get it being at this month long house sit was the perfect place!!

We had the last two nights with the house owners who were very easy company! We cooked a welcome home meal for them and they were delighted with Paul's efforts with the compost bins creation and the care of the land.






Our friendly neighbour and cycle friend Corinne came to say bye. Plus we enjoyed a lovely French meal out with Annemarieke and Wytze at a stunning wee French restaurant called Le Relais du Facteur in the lovely village of Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre.


We farewelled France via a BlaBlaCar ride from Saint Armond Montrond

 into Belgium - so much cheaper than train!!

PART TWO -LONDON

 13 December 2022- 22 December 2022 Paul and I went to the musical-Newsies. It was great! Set in New York in 1860 based on a true story of teenage newspaper sellers fight for justice. The dancing was aerobic, energetic and amazing, the choreography fantastic as was the stage setting. You walked through a scene to get to your seats, it was held at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. Very cool stage set up! I went along with Becs to Matilda's end of term Carol Concert. Enjoyed the enthusiasm of the 5-8 year Olds - so cute! Paul enjoyed a day at the RAF Museum. Paul found it interesting to see how far flight has developed since the first flight in 1903 by the Wright brothers. With Sam and Jade we went to the longest running show "The Mousetrap". It is a murder mystery play by Agatha Christie. The Mousetrap opened in London's West End in 1952. Was a great show and Sam was the best detective- but we can't tell you who dunnit!! London Finale

 22 December 2022 -2 January 2023 Our last house sit for this adventure was from 22 to 30 December in Twickenham. A small apartment in a secure block looking after Ollie, a 13 year old cat for a young couple in their 30s. They are an American and a Danish couple going back to his family in Denmark for Xmas. We were kindly left a bottle of bubbles and some English treats from chocs, Pringles and Xmas mince tarts!  We enjoyed being only a 25 minute walk from Jade's partner Sam's parents home to enjoy fun family times. We had great meals, plenty of games and laughter! Plus enjoyed having a night or 2 of Jade staying with us including Xmas Eve. Had a great Palmer family zoom covering Brisbane, London, Wellington and Thames on Christmas morning - Sam walked over to our House-sit to be part of that. Christmas brunch with Jade. Cheese 1 - England

 I've only had two cheeses than I've liked! A Camembert (called Brie, actually made in Denmark!). Castello Brie, probably also available in NZ!? I liked it probably because it was similar to the Dairy Farm Road camembert that I used to make, with extra added cream and it was sold as a 200g block. Shaun, we need to keep working on the increased size. I think it is the way to go. I only have a photo of the packaging as I demolished it quite quickly after opening it! The second cheese that I liked was a Cornish Kern, purchased from where it was made at Lynher Daires Cheese Co in Cornwall! Matured for two years at 9°C, it had a nice sweet mature flavour, similar to our Dairy Farm Road Flavoursome Gouda. Interestingly, it was coated in a wax rind that was painted on in two or three coats! Here's a photo of what is left of it and some of their promotional material.
