Amsterdam
We had one very wet afternoon and a cold morning the following day in Amsterdam. But our time was still enjoyable with fun accommodation on a boat in one of the many canals.
We walked around the streets getting drenched! In the end we succumbed to the weather and entered a pub recommended by our last house sit owners- De Haven Van Texel, overlooking one of the many canals. We downed two gluhweins (Dutch version of mulled wine) and followed that with a Dutchsnack of Bitterballen - a Dutch meat stew deep-fried in crumbs. Paul followed that with a Brocolistamppot. This is a Dutch traditional dinner basically mash with gravy and meat, while I enjoyed a salad 🥗😋
We enjoyed the architecture of the buildings in Amsterdam, the red light district actually wasn't as busy as Antwerps- or maybe we were not in the exact area!
The weather wasn't really on our side but in the morning it was just overcast, so we enjoyed a couple of hours walk to the Bus Station for our bus to Brussels then onto Eurostar to London - via the chunnel much to Paul's excitement!
We have seen these cute wee vehicles around Europe. So handy in narrow lanes!!
We walked passed Tuinpark - Nut en Genoegen ( Nut and Pleasure) where in 1917 vegetable gardens were established for food supplies during WW1. But after the war they realised its value and created permanent allotments with park like layout with walking paths for all to enjoy. From the start the people could build a guest house on the gardens, so they had a place to enjoy their vegetable and ornamental gardens - around 400m2, but some were smaller.
We enjoyed seeing the busy sides of the canals in Amsterdam.
So this brings our Europe adventures to an end and its back to UK to spend time with Jade and Sam plus see my Cornish cousins!
Where did that three months go!!
Final post from Europe.
