A taxi story!

From Elvas we wanted to get across the border into Badajoz in Spain. But no public transport available between Elvas, Portugal and Badajoz, Spain! Luckily the day before when arrived in Elvas I had spoken to 'Oscar' the taxi driver at the train station. He offered to get us to Badajoz for 25 Euros. I took his number but was sure he was trying to rip me the tourist off!! 

However, after talking around the following day it seemed he was fair and really our only option unless we walked the 20km - in this heat not doable! So I rang him and organised pick up the following day. He told me to ring him in the morning. Still niggling in the back of my mind - will he want more money, will he pick us up even! 

So rang him in the morning, he told me he had to work on the tractor but his son would pick us up...His son rang and organised to pick us up. So we went to the meeting point. Phone call from son - "car broken down but I organise another taxi"- really??? But another taxi did arrive- we did check price  with this new taxi driver-"yes, yes no problem ". I sat in the front and had my mapsme going - yes still checking if legit!

During ride I get a phone call from Oscar, the taxi driver. "You in a taxi car? You ok??" I had a moment of panic- he asked to speak to driver on my phone. They spoke in Portuguese, I only understood 25 euros.  Phew!-  was Oscar checking we were not going to get ripped off!!??

We got to Badajoz no problem and only paid 25 Euros!😃

Plus I later got a phone call from Oscar's son to ensure we got to Badajoz ok! AND a bit later one from Oscar the taxi driver, to make sure we were happy!

So, if you are ever in Elvas - use Oscar the taxi driver - he is awesome 🥰

 22 December 2022 -2 January 2023 Our last house sit for this adventure was from 22 to 30 December in Twickenham. A small apartment in a secure block looking after Ollie, a 13 year old cat for a young couple in their 30s. They are an American and a Danish couple going back to his family in Denmark for Xmas. We were kindly left a bottle of bubbles and some English treats from chocs, Pringles and Xmas mince tarts!  We enjoyed being only a 25 minute walk from Jade's partner Sam's parents home to enjoy fun family times. We had great meals, plenty of games and laughter! Plus enjoyed having a night or 2 of Jade staying with us including Xmas Eve. Had a great Palmer family zoom covering Brisbane, London, Wellington and Thames on Christmas morning - Sam walked over to our House-sit to be part of that. Christmas brunch with Jade. Singapore

Had a great flight to Singapore with Swiss Air. Met at airport by Yumin and Leon. Yumin was a farmstay guest 3 years ago and we have kept in touch😍.   Had a look around one of the terminal complex, The Jewel - huge shopping area in an architecturally beautiful complex.  Enjoyed our first of many food explosions! Kiwi food so bland in comparison!  Yumin was an amazing local guide! We enjoyed time with her family and seeing sights of Singapore!  This is the year of the rabbit. The year of the dragon that's me! The year of the snake is Paul and Yumin (24 year gap) The Tooth relic Buddhist temple -"was stunning on the inside! We visited it with Yumin and her sister Yuchun. Singapore claims to be a city in a garden! I think they do a good job of it! Look at all that food!!! An amazing meal with Yumin's parents and sister and brother-in-law. Marie eating the crab claw! PART ONE:-London time with Jade and Sam

25 November - 12 December  We are so fortunate to be able to stay with our dear friend Becs, her partner Steve and gorgeous lively five year old daughter - Matilda. I am helping 3-4 days a week with pick-up and drop-offs of Matilda to school, cooking dinners and Paul walks the dogs. We have a lovely large room with ensuite on the top floor. So lucky!! Bonus is it's in Clapham Common so only a 25 minute walk across the Common and down a street or two to Jade and Sam! 26 November Jade and Paul had a date and went to the Tower of London-spending ALL day there! Paul can explain... Yes, we saw just about every corner and read just about every word there!! But how much we will recall at the next pub quiz may be a whole different matter!! While they did that I went by train an hour out of central London to visit my second ever Farmstay guests - Mike and Anne.
